Welcome the Class of 2027!

Greetings SOM faculty, students, staff, and friends! I would like to introduce to you the UMMC School of Medicine Class of 2027. Joining us this month is a talented, interesting, and excited group of 165 first-year medical students. The average age of our first-year class is 24 with the range being 21 to 34. These students represent 31 different colleges/universities with 6 of them being in-state and 25 being out-of-state schools. They studied 29 different majors with biology being the most common.  They represent 37 different Mississippi counties. Females continue to outnumber the males consistent with the trend nationwide. Our M1 class is comprised of 55% females and 45% males. Ninety-three percent of the class are from underserved counties, and 32% are from rural counties. Our class continues to excel with great metrics with an average Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math (BCPM) GPA of 3.73 and an average MCAT of 506. Welcome Class of 2027 to the UMMC School of Medicine!
